Five Things to Check Out at VMworld 2019 and Visit While in San Francisco

VMworld 2019 is almost here. This is one of the biggest IT events of the year, with over 21,000 attendees and 5,000 companies. The show will be taking place at the Moscone Center and offers several great keynotes and sessions this year that you won’t want to miss. We have selected our top five cloud security sessions with something for everyone no matter where you are on your cloud migration journey which include: 1.) Monday Keynote: Pat Gelsinger, CEO, VMware latest ecosystem innovations, 2.) Hybrid Cloud Architecture – The New Standard from the Data Center, 3.) Kubernetes and the Cloud Native Journey, 4.) A Look Under the Hood with Microsegmentation and Containers, 5.) What is Service Mesh and Why Do I Need One? Note that Lindsay Vonn, Olympic Gold Medal Skier, and Steve Young, SF 49ers Quarterback, will also deliver keynotes at VMworld and discuss their respective foundations to empower young girls and provide assistance to children in need. Everyone at Aporeto is excited for the show and would love an opportunity to meet with you while you are there. Book a meeting with us 1:1 to learn more about our latest Zero Trust Cloud Security solutions and how we may address your unique hybrid cloud security challenges.

However, while SF is a great tech city, there are things to do that don’t involve discussing containers or VMs! If you need to take a break from VMworld and charge your batteries, here are five fun things to do:

This 1.5-acre space on Pier 15 of the Embarcadero is a science museum like no other. And while it’s great for kids, it’s equally as fun visiting as an adult. You can tinker around with exhibits that provide really cool, tactile insight into various features of nature, art, physics, and the human senses. Drop by the Fisher Bay Observatory Gallery to explore the history and geography of the San Francisco Bay region.

  • Nerd Nite SF at Rickshaw Stop

Nerd Nite SF is a monthly event hosted by Rickshaw Stop every Wednesday night. It’s often tagged as the “Discovery Channel with beer.” Three experts come together to give talks and share their passion and extensive knowledge about topics. These range from pop culture to technology to totally obscure topics. It’s the ultimate TED Talk-like event for nerds, and is both informative and stimulating. Did we mention there’s a skeeball and a bar that serves strong drinks?

  • Audium at 1616 Bush Street

Audium has been around for 44 years. It’s a pitch-dark experience that mixes sensory deprivation with a high-concept auditory experience. Audium is a unique and fascinating experience. It is like being inside a Stanley Kubrick film. Go in with an open mind. And take note of the classic craftsmanship when inside the dome.

  • Cartoon Art Museum

This is the place to be for comic book fans in SF. From your popular superheroes to Looney Tunes to your favorite Sunday comics, this museum covers it all. People of all ages can attend classes and workshops, produce their own comics and animation, view original cartoon art at exhibitions and screenings, and meet both professional and aspiring cartoonists. The museum approaches comics as a serious art form, and rightfully so. They house approximately 7,000 original pieces in their permanent collection. To check the current exhibits, click here.

  • Brewcade at 2200 Market St.

Brewcade involves beer, a variety of drinks, and carefully curated vintage arcade games. Pretty much a combination of the best things in life, no? Imagine playing your favorite arcade game or pinball machine with a good beer in hand. Brewcade has a weekly rotating draught list of more that 25 (mostly local) craft beers. And it’s said to be a popular hangout for hackers…

See you all at VMworld 2019 in San Francisco!
