Jason Schmitt, CEO

Jason is a product-oriented business leader with more than 20 years of experience in bringing enterprise products to market, with most of that time in information security. Before Aporeto, Jason was Vice President of Enterprise Security Products at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where he led product and go-to-market strategy for the application security, security operations, and data protection portfolios. During his time at HPE, he was also VP and General Manager of the Fortify and ArcSight business units. In this role, he was responsible for driving the growth of Fortify’s market-leading application security software and SaaS businesses and ArcSight’s security operations solutions, while managing all operational functions within the group.

Schmitt has extensive experience in product management, product development, and marketing for all types of web and security technologies. His operational security experience includes application security, security operations, cloud-based secure web gateways, mobile security, to network-based video surveillance. Earlier in his career, he held product management and engineering leadership positions in enterprise software and consulting companies SPI Dynamics (later acquired by HP), Barracuda Networks (through the acquisition of Purewire), Steelbox Networks, EzGov, Ariba and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).

He holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Masters of Business Administration from Georgia State University, and has three patents pending in machine learning for software security vulnerability detection.

Dimitri Stiliadis, Co-Founder, CTO

Dimitri leads Aporeto’s technology vision. He brings a multidisciplinary background in distributed systems, security and networking and has been the inventor of several ground-breaking technologies in these areas.

Before Aporeto, he was the co-founder and CTO of Nuage Networks, where he led the development of the industry-leading Virtualized Services Platform. He was also the CTO and Co-Founder of the NonStop Laptop Guardian, an end-point security solution. He has held several leading roles in Bell Labs Research, where he led a series of research programs with fundamental contributions in networking, algorithms, and distributed systems, and was instrumental in the commercialization of these technologies.

Dimitri received a Ph.D. and an MSc in computer engineering from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is the author of more than 50 papers at international conferences and journals, holds more than 25 patents and was the co-recipient of the 1998 IEEE Fred W. Ellersick Prize Paper Award.

Satyam Sinha, Co-Founder, VP Engineering

Satyam Sinha is the co-founder and VP Engineering at Aporeto. He has significant experience and contribution building products in different business areas. Most recently, Satyam was distinguished engineer at Cisco’s Insieme Business Unit where he was the principal architect for the switching product line. Before that, he spent more than a decade with TiMetra (now Nokia), building multiple successful products in areas of edge and core service provider networks followed by products such as the mobile gateways for the mobile infrastructure.

Satyam has authored more than 25 patents in the areas of networking, system design, and algorithms. He received his Master’s in EE from USC and a Bachelors in EE from the University of Pune.

Amir Sharif, Co-Founder, VP Marketing and Business Development

Amir Sharif has 20 years of experience building data center products integrating OS, virtualization, networking, storage, low-latency I/O, and orchestration. As VP of the Server Virtualization business unit, he drove market of adoption of Linux containers at Parallels.  At VMware, where he was the core platform product manager, he led the convergence efforts between ESX and ESXi hypervisors. His executive experience includes running product management, engineering, and business development.

Amir holds patents in RFID and distributed storage and received his MBA from UC Berkeley, where he was a Gloria Appel Entrepreneurial Fellow, a Hitachi Mu Chip Fellow, and Mayfield Fellow. He started his career as a mathematician and software engineer.

Hussain Al-Shorafa, VP Sales

Hussain has spent over 18 years in the information technology industry specializing in cybersecurity and cloud technologies. He has held leadership and sales positions at recognized industry leaders such as Symantec and EMC. Hussain’s sales leadership has resulted in $500M+ in revenue with industry leaders across many verticals including Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Goods, Retail, and Financials.

Hussain received his Global EMBA from Trium, a jointly issued degree from NYU Stern, London School of Economics, and HEC Paris.

Peter Wagner, Wing Venture Capital

Peter Wagner is a Founding Partner of Wing. He has led investments in dozens of early stage companies, more than 25 of which have gone on to complete IPO’s or successful acquisitions. These companies include Nimble Storage, Fusion-io, Red back Networks, Riverbed, Arrowpoint Communications, Infinera, Peribit, Topspin, Omneon, and Opower, to name a few.

Matthew Howard, Norwest Venture Partners

Matt brings over 30 years of experience in marketing, product management, engineering, business development, and sales in a wide range of technologies. He has appeared on the Forbes Midas List as a top 100 investor for three years and was recently recognized by Business Insider as one of the “19 Best Enterprise Tech Venture Capitalists.” Matt was also featured on AlwaysOn’s list of “Power Players in the Cloud.”
